Wexford Rentals & Property Management has read in the Irish Times that a HIgh Court rent dispute involving a Dublin landmark pub, The Barge, as ruled in favour of the publican.
Businessman Phillip Hickey has been told that they may continue to run the pub at a vastly reduced rent without interference form the Landlord. Ms Justice Laffoy has said that the €400,000 a year rent had been reduced by mutual written consent due to prevailing adverse economic conditions to €273,000 and that the she found no material change to date on the capacity of the publican to generate increased turnover. Wexford Rentals read further that she had no doubt that a yearly rent greater than €273,000 was not currently sustainable. Therefore the court granted orders restraining the landlord from forfeiting the lease or re-entering and taking possession of the pub or increasing rent.
